Elham (Ellie) Khazaee Torshizi is a marriage and family therapist who specializes in working with children, adolescents and their families. Ellie works with clients who need support in resolving relationship difficulties, are undergoing family transitions or have concerns related to anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and grief. Ellie is experienced in working with multicultural and multiracial families who are dealing with issues related to raising their children in a multicultural household.
Ellie obtained her master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her training took place at The Center for Healthy Families where she treated children, adolescents, families, and couples. She obtained specialized training in play therapy and became a certified facilitator of the Prepare and Enrich program for couples.
During her undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University, Ellie participated in internships at the Child Care Center where she worked with children in classroom settings and designed educational projects for the students. Due to her interests in psychology and sociology, Ellie became a teaching assistant and taught seminars for students in social psychology.
Ellie works to create a safe, calm, and supportive environment for her clients in order to facilitate change. She believes that therapy provides individuals with an opportunity to grow, heal, and gain insight. When working with Ellie, clients will feel that the therapeutic process is collaborative, encouraging and empowering.
Ellie is bilingual in Farsi and English. While not in the therapy room, she enjoys spending time with her nephews and catching up with family and friends. Ellie likes to write, read, paint and experience something new as often as possible.
